Hockey probably has the best ones

It's Mark Howe, not Marty How who was a 3 time 1st team all star. And the WHA should be treated as an equal to the NHL, not some inferior league. They had Howe, Hull, Gretzky, Hedbert, Nilsson, and many others. Messier, Goulet, Gartner all started there. It wasn't a minor league.
Ace site

That's not a net on the puck. I think it's just a mark to make the puck come "alive" a bit. (Don't ask me, I'm not an artist. But I think it looks good.)

As for the dash, tough call either way. The one thing that it does is draw your attention to it, and therefore, keeps your eyes to go to the second line (to see what the continuation is). Otherwise, it's just "hockey" standing out, with no real reason to go to the second line.

(Presuming of course that this logo will be used for marketing elsewhere, since, we already know the URL of the site we are on.)

So, I think the decision was a good one.

Back to the puck logo, is that a puck with a net? Do you have alternatives that you went through? A puck/stick combination would be interesting to see.

Slight quibble, though...I might not have put the hyphen in the top line next to the sport name.

Anyway, I love what I've seen from hockey-reference so far, with the highlight being seeing component plus/minus on the Internet for the first time. Congratulations! If only there were enough space to show the net GF and GA numbers, rather than having to compute them in my head...
